BIIAB Level 3 Award for Designated Premises Supervisors (DPS) Course
Alcohol can not be sold on any licensed premises unless a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) is appointed. If alcohol is sold on a licensed premises without an appointed DPS each sale would be illegal and carries a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine and / or 6 months imprisonment.
The responsibility and legally accountability for any licensable activities taking place on a licensed premises falls on the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS). Bearing this in mind, it is vitally important that the DPS knows what is expected of them as the DPS will be liable for penalties and / or large fines for non-compliance or unauthorised licensable activities.

The Designated Premises Supervisors (DPS) Course was developed in conjunction with local government, the police and the industry, to support the new post of designated premises supervisor (DPS) created by the Licensing Act 2003.
It is designed to provide designated premises supervisors with an understanding of their role and the responsibilities both within the Licensing Act 2003, and other regulatory issues in addition to those covered in the Act. The qualification also addresses the practical day-to-day issues involved in running a licensed premises.
